Ethical Jewelry: The Shiffon Promise

Shiffon Co. jewelry incorporates only all natural gemstones like natural diamonds and natural sapphires. Each stone is uniquely created by nature over millions of years, deep inside the earth’s crust.

They are set into Shiffon Co. pieces by New York City-based master craftsmen with love and pride.

Natural vs. Lab-Grown Diamonds:

Natural diamonds take billions of years to grow from carbon minerals to attain their stunning and spectacular appearance. Natural diamonds are formed in the depths of Earth’s mantle, about 140+ kilometers deep. They require very high temperatures and pressure that can only be found deep underground.

Lab grown diamonds are also referred to as engineered or cultivated diamonds. They are grown in a controlled environment by arranging carbon atoms to resemble a diamond’s structure.

Natural vs. Synthetic Sapphires:

Natural sapphires are made of corundum, also known as aluminum oxide. They are made deep inside the earth and mined from the ground. The natural gemstones are valued for their rarity and the fact that no two are alike. Natural sapphires have natural inclusions in them and exhibit a distinctive color based on the region where they are produced or mined.

Synthetic sapphires are made using corundum, also known as aluminum oxide. They are created in a laboratory and grown under carefully controlled conditions. The heat and pressure used to create them comes from lab machines rather than earth's crust. The lab-created sapphires are produced to emulate the exact color and clarity desired. The lab created sapphires have identical characteristics.

Experienced gemologists can make out the difference between high quality lab-created gemstones and natural gemstones.

Price differences between synthetic and all-natural stones:

Natural gemstones demand far a higher price while lab created stones are substantially less expensive.

Example:

The resale value of man-made diamonds is definitely not the same as a natural diamond. A natural diamond can be sold and resold anywhere in the world, meaning that its value will hold throughout the years. On the other hand, the resale market is very small for a synthetic diamond.

The process used to create synthetic gemstones is improving. The process is becoming faster, cheaper and better. Because of this the volume of synthetic gemstones in the market is growing and their cost is dropping every year. However, experienced gemologists can make out the difference between high quality lab-created gemstones and natural gemstones.

The natural gemstones are valued for their rarity and the fact that no two are alike.

All Shiffon Co. Jewelry only incorporates ethically sourced all-natural gemstones.
